Eyebrows and stop clearly defined.<br \/>\nMedian line distinctly marked to rather more than half-way up crown. Area surrounding<br \/>\neye socket well chiselled. Distance from tip of nose to stop approximately one-half<br \/>\ndistance from stop up over crown to base of skull. Muzzle broad, deep, square, even jaws.<br \/>\nNose well developed. Nostrils black in black and tans, black or brown in buffs, browns,<br \/>\nbrown and tans, roans and parti-colours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eyes<\/strong><br \/>\nEyeballs round, full and looking directly forward. Shape of eyerims gives a slightly almond appearance.<br \/>\nNeither\u00a0small nor protruding. Expression intelligent, alert, soft and appealing. Colour of iris dark brown<br \/>\nto black in blacks, black and tans, buffs and creams, and in the darker shades of parti-colours and roans.<br \/>\nIn reds and browns, dark hazel; in parti-colours and roans of lighter shades, not lighter than hazel,<br \/>\nthe darker the better.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ears<\/strong><br \/>\nLobular, set on line no higher than lower part of eyes, leather fine and extending to nostrils,<br \/>\nwell clothed with long silky, straight or wavy hair.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mouth<\/strong><br \/>\nJaws strong with a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite,<br \/>\ni.e. upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth and set square to the jaws.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Neck<\/strong><br \/>\nLong, muscular and free from throatiness. Rising strongly and slightly arched.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Forequarters<\/strong><br \/>\nShoulders deep, clean-cut and sloping without protrusion, so set that upper points<br \/>\nof withers at an angle permitting wide spring of ribs. Forelegs straight,<br \/>\nstrongly boned and muscular, set close to body well under scapulae.<br \/>\nElbows well let down, turning neither in nor out. Pasterns short and strong.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Body<\/strong><br \/>\nHeight at withers approximating length from withers to set on of tail. Chest deep.<br \/>\nLowest point no higher than elbows, front sufficiently wide for adequate heart<br \/>\nand lung space, yet not so wide as to interfere with straight forward movement<br \/>\nof forelegs. Ribs deep and well sprung throughout. Body short in couplings and flank,<br \/>\nwith depth at flank somewhat less than at last rib. Back strong, sloping evenly and<br \/>\nslightly downwards from withers to set of tail. Hips wide with quarters well rounded<br \/>\nand muscular. Body appearing short, compact and firmly knit together,<br \/>\ngiving impression of strength. Never appearing long and low.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hindquarters<\/strong><br \/>\nStrongly boned, muscled with good angulation at stifle and powerful,<br \/>\nclearly defined thighs. Stifle joint strong without slippage. Hocks strong, well let down,<br \/>\nwhen viewed from behind, hindlegs parallel when in motion or at rest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feet<\/strong><br \/>\nCompact, not spreading, round and firm, with deep, strong,<br \/>\ntough pads and hair between toes, facing truly forward.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tail<\/strong><br \/>\nPreviously customarily docked.<br \/>\nDocked: Docked by three fifths of tail. Set on and carried on a line with topline<br \/>\nof back or slightly higher. Never straight up and never so low as to indicate timidity.<br \/>\nWhen dog in motion, merry tail action.<br \/>\nUndocked: Set on a line with topline of back. Moderate length. Feathering in proportion<br \/>\nto the coat of the dog. Thicker at the root and tapering towards the tip. Carried on a<br \/>\nline with the topline of back, or slightly higher, but never curled over the back or so low<br \/>\nas to indicate timidity. When dog is in motion, merry tail action.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gait\/Movement<\/strong><br \/>\nCo-ordinated, smooth and effortless, covering ground well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coat<\/strong><br \/>\nOn head, short and fine; on body, medium length, with enough under coating to give protection.<br \/>\nEars, chest, abdomen and legs well feathered, but not so excessive as to hide body lines or<br \/>\nimpede movement and function as a sporting dog. Texture most important. Coat silky,<br \/>\nflat or slightly wavy. Excessive coat, curly, woolly or cotton texture undesirable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colour<\/strong><br \/>\nBlacks: Jet black; shadings of brown or liver in sheen of coat undesirable.<br \/>\nBlack and tan and brown and tan (classified under solid colours)<br \/>\nhaving definite tan markings on jet black or brown body.<br \/>\nTan markings distinct and plainly visible and colour of tan may be from lightest cream<br \/>\nto darkest red colour. Amount of tan markings restricted to ten per cent or less of<br \/>\ncolour of specimen; tan markings in excess of ten per cent undesirable.<br \/>\nTan markings not readily visible in ring or absence of tan markings in any of specified<br \/>\nlocations undesirable. Tan markings located as follows:<\/p>\n<p>1. A clear spot over each eye.<br \/>\n2. On sides of muzzle and on cheeks.<br \/>\n3. On underside of ears.<br \/>\n4. On all feet and legs.<br \/>\n5. Under tail.<br \/>\n6. On chest, optional, presence or absence permissible.<\/p>\n<p>Tan on muzzle which extends upwards and joins over muzzle highly undesirable.<br \/>\nAny solid colour other than black of uniform shades. Lighter colouring of feathering permissible.<br \/>\nIn all above solid colours a small amount of white on chest and throat while not desirable,<br \/>\npermissible, but white in any other location highly undesirable.<br \/>\nParti-colours: Two or more definite colours appearing in clearly defined markings essential.<br \/>\nPrimary colour which is ninety per cent or more highly undesirable; secondary colour or<br \/>\ncolours which are limited solely to one location also highly undesirable.<br \/>\nRoans are classified as parti-colours and may be of any usual roaning patterns.<br \/>\nTricolours, any of above colours combined with tan markings.<br \/>\nTan markings preferably located in same pattern as for black and tan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Size<\/strong><br \/>\nIdeal height: (the word approximate leaves too much to chance.) dogs: 37-39 cms<br \/>\n(141\/2-151\/2 ins): bitches: 34-37 cms (131\/2-141\/2 ins).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Faults<\/strong><br \/>\nAny departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the<br \/>\nseriousn<strong>ess with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion<br \/>\nto its degree and its effect upon the health and welfare of the dog.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Note<br \/>\nMale animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">Till toppen p\u00e5 sidan. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a9 Carina Ris &#8211; 2010<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Breed Standard General Appearance Serviceable-looking dog with refined chiselled head, strong, well boned legs, well up at the shoulder, compact sturdy body, wide muscular quarters, well balanced Characteristics Merrry, free, sound, keen to work.
